I'm trying to learn 3-D rendering. 3DS Max, more specifically. Wish me luck. I will need it.
Christmas Shouldn't End
I don't feel like Christmas should end quite so soon. I'll be somewhere else the next time. Phooey.

Nightmare: High School Repeat
I had a nightmare once: I didn't take a course that was a requirement in my high school. Thus, I didn't graduate from high school. Because of that, it invalidated my degrees. It also meant that I couldn't work at my job anymore. The only way that I could have this remedied was to: Repeat and entire year of high school!
This shocks and enrages me to no end. I'm stuck in my old high school frustrated at the system for putting me back here. From 8am to 3pm, I'm stuck on campus having ro repeat classes that have no professional relevance to me now. I'm having to deal with kids calling me "old man". I'm also trying to deal with the same kinds of idiots that tried cheating off of me in tests. I get tired of sitting in class with these minnows that have no idea about how to live in the real world.
Needless to say I hate my predicament so much that I start rebelling. I stop being an "A" student and become a slacker. Next thing you know, I'm going around hitting on cheerleaders and young teachers. I'm going around torching garbage cans and landing in the principal's office. I'm also pulling off my own senior prank every other day! I'm stuck in this groundhog day scenario and I'm acting out my frustration.
You have no idea how much of a relief it was to wake up to the sound of my alarm clock. Some nightmare...

Time Drawing Near
With everything happening around me, it's hard to concentrate. It's hard to write code and come up with ideas when thoughts of mobilizing dominates my thinking. As times draws nearer, I'm finding that I'm having less and less time to do things effectively. Conversely, I want to do a good job at work, but I feel guilty as I should be devoting more time studying the region and the issues I'll be immersed in. Even more so, time with my wife, I'm desperately holding on to. Nothing like a mobilization to turn up the urgency for time.
In some sense, I'm honored and looking forward to this mobilization. I'll get to do 'The Job' and serve with other Soldiers, most of whom, I have known for some time now. Yes, BAH, additional allowances, and tax-free incentives are nice, but it's not like I do this for the money.
In another sense, I'm going to hate being away from the wife and home. Honestly, I have a pretty good life as I have a home in a nice community, a decently paid job, and close friends and family. It's going to be hard not being homesick during this deployment. I'm certain that others would feel the same.
As time draws nearer, I feel like I'm pulled in all directions with my head spinning at times. I'm also finding that very few people can really relate to this. These coming months will seem like a flurry of activity. In all this, I yearn for simplicity.

A Long Time Coming.
Howdy friends, its me. I haven't blogged in a while and yet a lot of monumental things have been happening.
For starters, I think I know why I don't feel as much of a need to blog as I did before. This is probably due to the fact that I'm more apt to check facebook than I do for this blog. Its not really hard to see why. I post whatever one-liner I want and that's it. If people want to hear more, they usually reply and I'll add some more details. I wont get rid of this blog. It looks like it wont get updated that much.
In other news, I'm going overseas at the beck and call of Uncle Sam. We're doing pre-mobilization training off and on until we are actually mobilized next year. In some ways, I feel honored. However, this is going to suck as I will be away from my hunny for a long period of time. I feel sad just thinking about it.
As for some of my pre-mob training, I'm here in Utah, just south of Salt Lake City. Things are going ok thus far. Most of the great outdoors here is beautiful.
That's it for now. Laters.

20 years ago: Miracle at the French
It's hard to believe that's been over 20 years ago. Michael Chang beating Stefan Edberg to win the French Open at Roland Garros becoming the youngest player to win that Grand Slam event. It didn't look easy. He would have to beat world's #1 (and 3-time French Open champion) at the time, Ivan Lendl in the 4th round. Searing heat. Throbbing pain. Epic, I tell you.
You might say an event like this left an indelible mark on a kid hack like me...

Lot of Changes
Lot of changes are going to happen. My stomach feels tight...butterflies and all. We'll do our best to get through this...

Another Random Scene in the life of Geoff
Tossing a rubber ball around the office with my coworkers is good. It can break up the monotony of work. Also, pelting each other with the ball in the back of their heads when they least expected is fun. It goes both ways, of course...
