The Break
Spring finals are over and I just started my first day of summer school. This weekend is hardly much of a break, but I'll take whatever comes my way, I suppose. Been working with a local graphic designer on doing some freelance work. It keeps me up at times but it's a far cry better than what I was doing before. Here, I get to try different ideas without being held down by corporate template guidelines.

Friday, I did a lot of cleaning around the house and hung out with Steve later in the day. Saturday, I celebrated my cousin's and neice's (Alan and Christina) birthday. I ordered a Logitech MX700 for Alan but it didn't get here on time. Rats.

Sunday, I did some more cleaning and went with Alvin to Manuel's little housewarming party. Right after, I met with Dardy for some coffee in Mt. View. That was cool with the exception of these two "faux-gay" guys talking hella loudly in front of us, hoping to annoy us into trying to take our seats. I didn't really feel myself talking to Dardy with these jackasses around. I was hoping to make a break when one of them started smoking. Excuse me, could you smoke over there? But then Dardy started smoking. darn. They were there a little longer. Bad way to end a small break. Maybe I should break those fools instead. Then I'd feel better.

Of Chance, Of Friends, and of Fiends
Well, finals is over and I am really glad. I didn't study all that much for the Art History class though. I guess since, I was already going into the final with an A, I figured that I could afford to not to push as hard. Oh well.

Today (Thursday), after meeting with Anita, Walter, Jessica, and Oya for lunch, I dropped something off at campus and went to Alvin's. There, we watched Rounders as we played some "training" hands of 7 card poker. I'm beginning to realize that poker is really a game of sizing people up and a game of wills (not to mention credible deception).

Had dinner with Christine, Pei-Hua and David afterwards. Christine just finished her second year of Med school at Tulane. She's doing well, it seems. It was certainly good to see her again. the last time I saw her was at Ruth's wedding.

Afterwards, we hung out at Border's books where this dude totally came out of nowhere, asked me about recommendations about books, graphic design, and the military. This guy seemed to agree with everything I said. I was even more suspicious when he tried to ask me for my phone number. I gave him one of my email addresses but no number and no name. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that this is someone who's trying to recruit me into a cult. It's happened to me once and expereince dictated for me to be a little suspicious. Fortunately, Christine noticed and just simply hinted that "we gotta go" and we left quickly. Christine is awesome, watching my back the way she did.

Thought of the Moment
Maybe I should move...
Age Gap?
There's this girl who sits next to me in my design class. Let me describe her to you: She's beautiful in almost every which way you can visually present her. Needless to say, she's just absolutely striking. However, she seems to sit there in an almost comatose manner and just hardly ever says anything. Even more, she always seemed to have a rather serious demeanor everytime I saw her. I didn't quite get it and I didn't quite care.

Today, however (being that it was the last day of this class), as we were waiting outside for the teacher to judge our works in the studio, I was sitting next to her on the steps near the Flint center. I figured, oh well, why not? So I struck up what would turn out to be a rather meaningful conversation about the study of design and things of that sort. She came across as having a very warm and engaging personality. I was certainly surprised.

But the weird thing was when the conversation somehow shifted to when I graduated from high school. HIGH SCHOOL?? Apparently, she graduated from Silver Creek in 2002! Holy Cow! She must be 19, tops! Fortunately, the teacher called us back in before I could tell her when *ahem* I graduated from high school.

Reader, you're probably wondering this right now: Would I? The Answer: Probably not. Even if it did work, it would just be too weird. We would be at completely different stages in our lives and we'd have little in common. How would we explain this?? Banish the thought, I say.

Blackjack
Went with Alvin tonight in his new G35 to *drumroll* Cache Creek. I could tell you the longer version, but I'll sum it all up with what we got in the end: $125 per person (net). We could have gotten more than this but my luck started petering out. Our strategy was this, pool our money to one person and bet big. This way, you can (in theory) make a lot of dough in a short amount of time. I played (but at the advisement of Alvin behind me). Blackjack is interesting, but I feel it's still a game of luck and there's not a whole lot the player can really do. I mean, I just watched a lady lose a ton of dough on one hand just by following the rules on when to double down and do some splits! I think I should get into Poker now.

Before going, we went to Davis to tour the campus. We were really surprised by all of all the construction going on. I swear, there's LOT more buildings going up in Davis than when we left.

Had some interesting talk about everything and nothing along the way. Most notably, with Alvin driving his car well in excess of 100mph on the 505! The funny thing is that we got to 130 without feeling the engine working all that hard. If it were my Corolla, the car would probably disintegrate and all that would be left of me would be some shreds of clothes along the freeway.

The New Beginning
Well, after much deliberation and late nights, I've finally got my site re-designed and moved to a newer location and got this blog to work. I must admit, I was going to use MoveableType, but the people at the hosting company didn't want to load DB_File. Oh well, Blogger isn't too bad, right? Anyways, the site isn't completely done, per se. I still need to hunt down some of my stuff for the portfolio (which are all over the place) and other creative items.

Anyways, this is the beginning of my actual "blog." I must admit, this is a far cry better than posting static pages. I guess this means that I'll be writing more often in the future...
