The Passing of a Great Man

Very recently, an uncle had passed away. He was very close to me and my immediate family. He was uncle Paul. His house is right in our neighborhood. If anything, he was a strong man. He was everything from an engineer, businessman, real estate agent, mountain biker, swimmer, golfer, and a photographer. A man of many talents. He parted his hair much like the football coach Jimmy Johnson did. He was many things and more.

I have many fond memories of climbing that really large oak tree in his backyard or playing with the dog. Almost every Christmas, we would have dinner at their house. Uncle Paul and Aunt May would often cook something really elaborate like a turkey or a roast beef with all of the fixings.

The notion that he was a strong man seems almost ironic as far as his passing is concerned. What brought his passing was ultimately a degenerative disease that slowly debilitated him in his last few years. However, I when I remember him, I don't really think of him being emaciated and slowly losing his muscular control. See, I don't really think of the way he died. I think of the way he lived. Uncle Paul worked hard and yet he had almost a trademark smile and a certain easy-goingness about him. He lived life to the fullest and loved those who were near to him.

I'm going to miss him. Memories of him will always be there.

No IM!!!!!

In case some of you are wondering why I haven't been on IM for some time now. Well, the reason is because a new policy at my company dictated that we are not to be using any form of IM on our machines. As it states, an employee will be terminated if found with these applications on your computer. Needless to say, I feel cut off from the world, somehow. Go figure.
Even more, a similar fate will be dealt unto you if you are found listening to music! This really kills me since I have to think creatively to make stuff for the company. Music has always helped me to block out all of the distractions and just focus on my designs. Since I can't listen to music now, I've been going stir crazy in creating my graphics. Also go figure.
Yes, sports fans, yours truly is feeling ever more "claustrophobic" as each day passes. Maybe send me an email from time to time? I'd like to know if you folks still exist out there. =)

My Favorite Movie of All Time

My Favorite Movie of All Time
Field of Dreams. That's my favorite movie of all time. For those of you who know me, I'm sure this comes as a surprise to you. My favorite movie has no action heroes, no fiery explosions, no death defying scenes, no adrenaline-pumping music, or even an impressive display of firearms. In fact, at most there's only the idea of a "gun" in one scene. =)

Although I feel weird admitting this, I can honestly say that this is the one and only movie that I can think of where I felt like crying in the end. I don't know what it is about this movie, but it certainly is an uplifting movie for me.

This is not the kind of film for people who like to sharpshoot at a movie and pick apart what's plausible and what's not. It's not that sort of film anyhow. I think this is the kind of film for people who simply want to dream and for those who seek after something profound.

Because of this film, it is on my "to do" list to visit Dyersville, IA someday, where the movie was filmed. The baseball diamond is
still there.

New Job

New Job
Hey all. Not too much to mention here. Just started a job about 2 weeks ago. It's not a bad job although I'll have to admit, the outfit is a little disorganized at times. My job is to do graphics and marketing stuff. I'm working near dowtown San Jose near the airport off of Hwy 87. It's a nice location since it puts me close to a lot of things in town. It's too bad I don't live near a Light Rail station. It's a short walk from the one on First Street.
