Ecclectic 80s Cartoons!!
Yes indeed. I'll say for now that YouTube is awesome. I use it to look for the intro credits of the TV shows that I've watched when I was a kid. Sure, we all know about Transformers and GI Joe. Perhaps we all know about Robotech. But what about some of the shows that weren't as popular but were still kind of cool to follow. Perhaps some of these will ring a bell:
MASK: Mobile Armored Strike Kommand. I found the the intro on the site and I must say, it's a good artifact to find. I say "artifact" because of how 80s the theme song sounds. Electric guitars, synthesizers, singer with something of a Rick Springfield sound to it. "MASK!!! Is the Mighty power that can save the daaaaaaaaaaay!!" I even found a humorous fan site on it.
Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors: This cartoon was short lived. What I remember was the super vehicles with all of the cool gadgets and weapons on them. Rather, than go out and buy the toy, I would try to make the same vehicles out of Legos. I'd say my work was rather impressive, if I do say so. I made a little 4 wheeled vehicle with a huge robot arm at the top with at least 6 guns on it (and a rocket engine). What I also liked was the the theme song was rather catchy. I could have easily mistaken it for something else on MTV.
SilverHawks: This was produced by the same folks who brought you ThunderCats. It was actually good. I seem to remember the theme song like it was yesterday. Tallyhaaaaaaaaaaaawk!! What was the kicker for me was that they would have a small educational quizzes at the end where the Copper Kid would be taught lessons on the Solar System by Bluegrass. Yes, those were also my early days getting into Astromomy. Good times.
COPS: Central Organization of Police Specialists...... "Fighting crime....in a future time." It was in a place something like New York City but called Empire City. Basically, the mob has a lot of power in Empire and a Fed named Special Agent B.P. "Bulletproof" Vess (get it?) puts together cops from all over the country to combat this crimewave. Think of GI Joe with badges and you'll get the picture....yes, with cool codenames like "Barricade" or "Long Arm" or even "Mace." Yes, the good guys win at the end. I always cheered for the chick with the sultry voice from SFPD. What was also cool was that after the episode was over, real cops would give a community service announcement like "no riding with strangers" or "say no to drugs." Seriously, does anyone do this anymore? I'll finish this one with Vess' famous tagline: "It's crime fightin' time!"
Ok, I'll stop here. If anyone wants to chime in, feel free. Remember, the 80s rule.
