TV Rave: Journeyman

It’ll start this by saying that this is an awesome show. It's about a San Francisco newspaper reporter who inexplicably starts travelling back in time. During his time travels, he winds up helping people in the past, thus fixing people's lives in the present day. Think of it as Quantum Leap 2.0.

What I love about this show is that it's shot in San Francisco! Of course, what I really love is the mentions of other nearby towns like Emeryville, Menlo Park, Mendocino and what have you. It's very very convincing.

The other thing I love about this show is that it appeals to the history buff in me. As soon as he jumps into another year, everything from the contemporary music of its time to the historical events has quite an appeal to me.

Earthquake

Anyone feel a slight rumble during the Warriors game last night at say, 8:05? Good times.

Winter Flashback?

It's funny what can trigger a chain of memories...

As I was walking out during lunch to run some errands, I noticed that the sky was a silvery overcast, with a chilly bite in the air. Next thing you know, I'm thinking of the lyrics to It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas: "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas…E'erywhere we go…"

Next thing you know, I'm thinking about fireplaces and the warm glow it puts into the living room, feeling toasty and what not. To go with that, the smell of a good pine tree.

Next thing you know, it's the feeling of being out of school for 2 weeks, not having a care in the world. It was then I snapped back into reality: What a minute?? I'm at work!! *grumble*

Father/Son Time

My mom went to Texas with my aunt this weekend so I went to spend time with my dad while he was alone. I had a wonderful weekend.

We didn't really do a whole lot. We had a pizza and watched a lot of college and pro football. As disappointing as the football was this weekend, I still had a good time.

I took a 3-mile walk with my father through the old neighborhood. It was nice to see that some areas are as idyllic as when we first moved into the neighborhood. It was warm too. We got to talk about all kinds of things. I noticed during our walk that he's rather fit too. He walked with a lot of purpose and speed.

When we weren't walking or watching ball, I took some time to fix the wireless network at the house. I was glad to be of help here.

When P came by to pick me up, my dad insisted that he cook dinner by himself. I don't know how he cooks chicken so well. When I'm the one trying to cook chicken, it's either too dry or I somehow set them on fire (with the meat around the bone still red). It was a nice dinner.

The weekend was simple and I couldn't have had a better time. I think I'll come back next week as well.

Blue Starting Blocks

I passed my police academy entrance exam. To be specific, I passed the state POST entry-level exam (Peace Officer Standards and Testing). What this means is that I’m eligible to apply to different local public safety/law enforcement agencies in the Bay Area. The test had a few trick questions. In the end, it wasn’t too terribly hard. The physical portion was also not too terribly taxing either.

This isn’t really a major milestone. This is only the beginning. Perhaps it’s even the beginning of the beginning. First, you have to get hired, right? So far, I’ve applied to a few cities here on the Peninsula. I’m also thinking of Fremont as well. If what they say is true, it’s a little bit like applying for college. You apply to as many as you can and just hope that someone accepts you and billets your appointment to the Police Academy.

The acceptance is the hard part, I think. It’s all about how you handle the Oral Board. Basically, it’s a job interview where a panel asks you a ton of questions regarding whether or not you would be a good fit for their department. You can do nothing else other than to wear a smart looking suit and just take the questions that they dish out. But until then, it’s a waiting game with some amount of uncertainty in it. I hope some department calls before the year is over.

I hope I’m doing the right thing here. I feel blessed that my hunny is supporting me in this endeavor. I’m hoping and praying that this all works out.

Yet Again, Catching Up...

Ok, it’s been a good long while since I’ve blogged. Too many good things have happened since my last foray into the good old 1980s via youTube. Allow me to do my data dump, if you will:

Mike and Christi’s wedding was a month ago on Hawaii (the Kohala Coast of the ‘Big Island’). It was awesome. Before the wedding ceremony, we took our rented van and did the whole eco-tour of the island, drove to the other side to Volcanoes National Park. Along the way, went to different coves (even Black Sands) and saw a lot of turtles. I admire how they spend their days sunning themselves on the beach, without a care in the world. The wedding itself was awesome. The ceremony was on the beach with a sunset in the backdrop. It was really nice.

As of late, I’ve gotten in contact with a lot of friends from the long past, primarily through Facebook. On Facebook itself, I find it to be very addicting.

Just this last week, I took my APFT and I barely passed. I aced push-ups and sit-ups but was running kinda slow. In fact, if I had run like 40 seconds slower, I would have failed the test. Cardiovascularly, I was fine. But my legs seemed rather weak. They started to feel like rubber just halfway into the run portion. So, I’m running a lot more now, or at least trying to make a better habit of it. Oh, to be in the 290+ range again….

I got other things to write about. Trust me. It’ll come soon (enough brow beating already, I know I say that all the time).
